Kayce Dutton did the unthinkable in the Yellowstone finale. He buried his father, sold the ranch, and told his family that he was moving on for good. However, some things are easier than done. After leaving Yellowstone behind, Luke Grimes will reprise his role as Kayce in the upcoming CBS drama, Y: Marshals.

In the solo Yellowstone spin-off series, Kayce Dutton will lead a new task force in Montana aimed at preventing violence and lawlessness in cowboy country. Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty are set to reprise their roles as Thomas Rainwater and Mo, respectively. There’s no word yet on Kayce’s wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille). Brecken Merill will also return as his son, Tate. They’re joined by Kayce’s new teammates, played by Logan Marshall-Green (And Just Like That…), Arielle Kebbel (9-1-1), Ash Santos (Mayor of Kingstown), and Tatanka Means (Outer Range).

In the first trailer for the Yellowstone spin-off series, Kayce breaks his grand return down for us in plain English. “I know that sometimes good men have to do bad things,” he says. “Let them try to find a new beginning.” The action-packed footage also features Kayce warding off a bear and stopping a riot. You can watch the trailer below.

Y: Marshals arrives on March 1, 2026. The new series is executive produced by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, but Spencer Hudnut (SEAL Team) is set to show as the official showrunner. The first episode is written by Hudnut, Craig Thomas (How I Met Your Mother), Abi Morgan (The Split), and Dan Mazer (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm).

“Honestly, I did not think I was going to do it,” Grimes told Esquire about the spin-off in July. “There were a lot of ideas getting thrown around, and at some point, I heard a really good idea and that was kind of it. I thought, Actually, that opens up the world for him. And putting the hat and jacket back on isn’t all that bad. I really liked playing that character. It was the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had in my life, so I’m happy not to say goodbye to him fully.”

Outside of Y: Marshals, Paramount has yet to set a date on the other Yellowstone sequels—Dutton Ranch, The Madison, and 1944. Of course, Sheridan’s new deal with Universal might dampen hope on some of those shows. Now that Kayce’s spin-off has broken the dam, I’m sure we’ll hear more about Yellowstone’s future soon.
