Kayla Nicole used a red carpet interview to deliver a message unrelated to dating rumors or celebrity headlines. While speaking with BET at the 2026 BET Awards, the media personality and podcast host was asked for advice for Black men on showing up for Black women. Nicole didn’t hesitate with her answer.
“Black men have to do a better job at protecting Black women at all costs,” she said. “I’ve said this before. But protection can show up in so many different ways.”
Before expanding on her answer, Nicole made one thing clear about where she stands.
“I love me a Black man! I’m going on the record,” she said with a laugh. “Where’s all my cameras at? I LOVE ME A BLACK MAN!”
Nicole went on to explain that protection isn’t limited to physical safety. Instead, she pointed to everyday actions that can make a difference.
“Whether that’s just like calling the homegirl and checking in on her, and making sure that she’s good,” she said. “Whether that means standing up for a woman that you see that’s in public, having a hard time with a man. If you see a woman in distress, it takes nothing for you to tap her by the shoulder and make sure that she’s good.”
She closed her answer by explaining why she believes those moments matter.
“It’s a very unsafe place for Black women in this world right now,” Nicole said. “And we need y’all to show up for us.”
The comments mark a different direction from much of the attention Nicole has received over the past year.
Since 2025, much of the public conversation around Nicole has centered on her former relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce. Following Kelce’s engagement to Taylor Swift, Nicole repeatedly found herself in headlines after recreating Toni Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough for Me” video for Halloween, appearing onstage with Braxton months later, and starring in a Super Bowl commercial that sparked widespread online discussion.
Nicole has since addressed many of those moments herself. She revealed that Braxton personally invited her to perform after seeing the Halloween tribute, reflected on her breakup with Kelce, describing it as potentially “right person, wrong time,” and told TMZ she’s “single as a dollar bill,” while keeping her dating life casual.
At the same time, she’s continued expanding her career outside of sports media. Along with hosting The Pre-Game podcast, Nicole has fronted campaigns for brands including skinBUTTR.
