The 40-year-old actor told Decider, “I was not aware of that, no. I’m very sorry,” when asked about criticism directed at Rowling’s views on transgender rights. Knightley added, “I think we’re all living in a period of time right now where we’re all going to have to figure out how to live together… I hope that we can all find respect.”
Rowling’s controversy began in 2020 when she published a 3,800-word essay claiming the transgender “movement” causes “demonstrable harm” to cisgender women.
