Whitcomb reacted to Clarkson’s cover with excitement on Instagram, posting enthusiastically on his story.

“No way @Kellyclarkson sang my song on her show!!!” he wrote. “I love you!!! I’m speechless,” he continued, concluding with: “Sincerely honoured.”

Whitcomb also commented on a video of the cover, writing, “I love you Kelly,” with a heart emoji and a tearing up emoji. He left another comment stating that Clarkson “absolutely crushed it.”

The Juno winner made his debut on March 29, performing Options at TD Coliseum in Hamilton.

Shortly after his performance, he was named breakthrough artist of the year.

“I’ve been finding myself asking why lately, like why I get to do this, why I’ve been blessed with this opportunity,” he said in his acceptance speech. “And honestly I still don’t know. But what I do know, is I will not squander this opportunity, I love you guys,” he said before thanking the crowd.

“I promise I’ll keep working hard and I’ll stay sober,” he added.
