Kelly Clarkson‘s ex-husband has died aged 48. A representative for the family of Brandon Blackstock said via People: “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Kelly and Brandon were married from 2013 until 2022 and share two children, River, 10, and Remington, eight. He also had two children from a previous marriage, Savannah and Seth.
The sad news comes just hours after Kelly revealed that she was postponing the remaining dates of her August Las Vegas residency due to Brandon’s illness.
“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” she wrote.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.
“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
Kelly and Brandon’s relationship started back in 2012, and the two married the following year. Her ex-husband also served as her manager.
However, in 2020, the couple called it quits, with Kelly filing for divorce on grounds of irreconcilable differences. Brandon Blackstock was reportedly last seen in public this year at the Houston Rodeo with his brother, Shelby, and McEntire.
Clarkson first met Blackstock at an event in 2006. Following their divorce in 2020, the proceedings took two years to be finalised.
One person left a tribute on X saying: “Heartbreaking news. Sending love and strength to Kelly Clarkson, their family, and everyone grieving Brandon Blackstock’s passing.”
A second also chimed in: “Regardless of the past, that’s incredibly sad. No one should have to go through that.” A third also said: “Rest in peace Brandon, my heart goes out to Kelly & the children they had together. This is such a tragedy.”
