Ken Paxton blasts NFL’s pick of Bad Bunny for Super Bowl 60 halftime show, calls for Jason Aldean

Grammy Award-winning artist Bad Bunny might have millions of fans across the globe, but Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton doesn’t seem to be one of them.

After the NFL named Bad Bunny, also known as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, as the prime performance pick for its Super Bowl 60 halftime show, Paxton took to X to air out his gripes. Here’s how that went.

On Monday, Paxton reposted an X update from conservative influencer and former music video director Robby Starbuck, who was sharing a post from “The Redheaded Libertarian” podcast host Josie Glabach in which she shared a conspiratorial video from another content creator.

“Bad Bunny is a demonic Marxist who was been granted the largest stage with the greatest audience in the middle of a Christian revival,” Glabach wrote in her post. “This is by design. We are in a spiritual war, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it.”

Starbuck followed up with a caption of his own, calling for football fans to “Reach out to @nfl @nflcommish to demand some answers! Their info is below. Stand up. ⬇️” he wrote.

Rather than a “demonic Marxist,” as Glabach described Bad Bunny, Paxton suggested a country artist.

“I vote we get @Jason_Aldean and bring some patriotism into a country that desperately needs it,” Paxton said in his Monday X update.

Amid the Trump administration’s nationwide crackdown on immigration, Bad Bunny said he would skip the United States for his upcoming “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos” world tour.

“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the US, and none of them were out of hate – I’ve performed there many times. All of (the shows) have been successful. All of them have been magnificent. I’ve enjoyed connecting with Latinos who have been living in the US,” he said in an interview with i-D magazine, published in early September.

However, the Puerto Rican-born artist expressed concern over ICE potentially targeting his fans: “But there was the issue of – like, (expletive) ICE could be outside (my concert),” he said. “And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl 60 halftime show might be one of his only U.S.-based performances scheduled for next year. The artist has three Grammy wins and 10 nominations under his belt. Jason Aldean has five Grammy nominations and zero wins.
