Kenny Rogers‘ widow, Wanda Rogers, is celebrating what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.
The late singer married Wanda on his ranch in Athens, Ga., in 1997, and they remained together until his death at age 81 in March 2020. In honor of their 29th wedding anniversary on Monday, June 1, Wanda shared a heartfelt tribute to Kenny.
“Today is the most special day for me: our wedding anniversary,” Wanda wrote alongside a wedding photo posted by Kenny’s team on Instagram. “Even though I can’t touch you, I hold you in my heart forever, Kenny… Justin, Jordan, and I miss you so much. Love, Wanda.”
Kenny’s team wrote the remainder of the caption, sharing the lyrics of “As God Is My Witness,” the special wedding song Kenny wrote for Wanda, along with his bandmates Warren Hartman and Steve Glassmeyer. A few sweet lyrics include, “You’re not my first love, but you’ll be my last,” and “As God is my witness, I’ll give you all my love.”
Since Kenny died, Wanda has been working to keep his memory and legacy alive. She is also a mother to Kenny’s twin sons, Justin and Jordan. The late country music legend also welcomed daughter Carole, son Kenny Jr., and son Christopher with prior spouses.
In 2023, three years after Kenny’s death, Wanda opened up for the first time about losing Kenny.
“You would think Kenny was the most average guy. He was never pretentious, and he sort of taught [the boys] that. He never needed any special attention,” Wanda told PEOPLE. “I miss his love, his support. I miss his touch. I miss everything about him. I wish we could have that one last conversation just to say, ‘Are you good? Are you OK?’ “

Before he died, the “Islands in the Stream” singer told her that he wanted her to find love again.
“He said, ‘I’m not going to be here forever. I want you to be happy,’ ” Wanda recalled to PEOPLE. ” ‘You’re young. I want you to have a full life past me.’ And of course I was like, ‘What? I don’t want to talk about that. Turn the TV back on.’ “
At the time, Wanda revealed that she was “dating someone very special,” even though it did take her “a minute to move on.”
“Kenny gave me his very best, and he wanted me to move on and be happy. That’s a really big man to be able to say those words and mean it,” she said. “I think it just shows the kind of guy he was.”
