‘Happier than I’ve ever been’: at 68, Gary Oldman is not ready to slow down yet

Nearly six months since their homecoming show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Khruangbin is returning to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Houston trio’s debut album, “The Universe Smiles Upon You.”

What blossomed from three friends hanging out and many late nights at Rudyard’s British Pub in Montrose, the trio reached many milestones after the release of their debut album, released Nov. 6, 2015 – Grammy nominated, featured on a critically acclaimed HBO show, guests on NPR’s Tiny Desk series and a long list of collaborations with renowned musicians.

The anniversary tour has the band making several stops at intimate venues in 12 cities across the U.S., with the first stop at the Heights Theater, 339 W. 19th, on Nov. 5 and 6. Tickets are $100 each.

“We’re so glad you’re here,” a message from the band reads as you enter its website and sign up to join its fan club – the only way to secure a ticket for their upcoming show. The demand is expected to be overwhelming and tickets are expected to be “very limited,” according to the band’s website.

In an effort to ensure fans get tickets, not scalpers and bots, a limited number of randomly selected fans will be given a chance to purchase tickets, the website states.

To be considered to purchase tickets at their show at Heights Theater, fans must register through the band’s website by 10:59 p.m. Oct. 13. Registered fans will be notified of the random selection results by 1 p.m. Oct. 16.

There are two options for fans to purchase tickets – fans who add their credit card and ticket preferences in advance will be eligible to get first access to tickets, while other fans will be randomly selected to receive a one-time-use code 30 minutes before tickets go on sale, with the option to purchase up to two tickets.

Tickets are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis to randomly selected fans when tickets go on sale at 11 p.m. Oct. 17.

The band’s tour comes after Fender announced guitarist Mark Speer and bassist Laura Lee would be getting their very own signature instruments to celebrate the release of their debut album.

In a previous Chronicle report, Lee called the collaboration a surreal moment for the band’s career, having to deal with imposter syndrome most of the time.

“And now that there’s this actual bass with my name on it, it’s like, ‘I guess I’m the real deal’,” she said while chuckling.
