King Charles and Queen Camilla were treated to a vibrant Bollywood-style reception during their tour of London’s East End today.

The Events 2 Empower dance group kicked off the royal engagement with a colourful performance at the Barking Learning Centre Community and Family Hub.

The facility serves as a central point bringing together Barking Library, council services and numerous partner organisations that provide assistance to the diverse local population.

Throughout their half-hour visit, the royal couple engaged with representatives from various groups working to support residents across the borough.

The community hub connects local people with services ranging from literacy programmes to housing support initiatives.

During the visit, His Majesty examined a Bosch tool kit while learning about an innovative borrowing initiative known as the Library of Things.

The scheme enables residents to borrow household items they might only need occasionally, eliminating the expense of purchasing tools and equipment for single use.

The King praised the programme, noting it contributed positively to the circular economy.

The royal couple also held conversations with workers addressing a broad spectrum of community challenges.

These included staff involved in social prescribing, employment guidance services, homelessness prevention efforts and reading promotion schemes.

The hub’s approach brings together multiple organisations under one roof to ensure residents can affordably access resources needed to maintain their homes.

Their Majesties then travelled to Barking & Dagenham College’s Rush Green Campus, where they participated in student workshops.

They observed demonstrations in fashion, art and design, plumbing and healthcare, witnessing the practical skills being taught to help young people succeed.

Sir Idris Elba, a former student of both the college and The King’s Trust, welcomed Their Majesties outside the cutting-edge television and film studios that bear his name.

Students showcased their abilities at the facilities, demonstrating the range of technical expertise being developed at the institution.

To conclude their campus visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla unveiled a commemorative plaque marking both their attendance and the college’s 65th anniversary.

The royal engagement concluded with a walkabout, during which a small number of demonstrators chanted pro-Palestinian slogans from within the gathered crowd.

Their voices were quickly overwhelmed by enthusiastic cheering and flag-waving from the assembled public as Charles and Camilla greeted well-wishers nearby.

The Barking Churches Choir provided a musical send-off to close the visit.

The college’s film training programme, Make It Here, operates in partnership with Eastbrook Studios to give students authentic experience working within professional production environments.

The initiative aims to prepare young people for careers in the industry whilst promoting the borough and Eastbrook Studios as attractive filming locations for production companies.

His Majesty met participants engaged in hands-on technical workshops during the visit.
