King Charles is set to have an important decision after reports that his youngest son will send him an invite to open the 2027 Invictus Games. Prince Harry, who founded the competition in 2014 for wounded ex service personnel, is reportedly going to invite his father to open the event in 2027 when it is held in Birmingham.
This has been seen as a controversial move, especially as Prince Harry, 41, has not had the best of relationships with his royal relatives since quitting the family six years ago. While it is not yet known whether or not King Charles will accept the request, one royal expert has said the monarch is now in a “difficult position”.
Speaking to The Express, expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that while there are many reasons why the King would open the event, there is also one reason why he potentially wouldn’t.
This is because the King’s eldest son Prince William, The Prince of Wales, would be unlikely to approve of the situation, especially as Harry has criticised the Royal Family a number of times.
Mr Fitzwilliams said: “The future of the monarchy lies with the Waleses and their family.
“The brothers (William and Harry) have reportedly not spoken in over three years.
“It is unlikely the King, who is undoubtedly keen on some sort of reconciliation with Harry and to see his grandchildren, whom he last saw during the celebrations of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, (which was the last time they were in the UKwould act in a way William strongly opposed.”
