Speculation is mounting over whether King Charles and Prince Harry will meet during the Duke of Sussex’s return to the UK, with insiders warning that any attempt at reconciliation could be full of risk.
Prince Harry is due to arrive in London on Monday (local time) for the WellChild Awards, a charity event he has long supported.
His visit also coincides with the third anniversary of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. It will be the Duke’s longest stay in Britain since her funeral.

Royal observers believe the visit presents the strongest opportunity yet for a face-to-face meeting with his father, but doubts remain over whether a private catch-up can be managed without drama.
Renowned royal biographer Tom Bower sounded a note of caution, warning that King Charles has much to lose if the talks turn sour.
“There would be huge levels of emotion involved if they meet,” he told The Times.
“Whatever Charles is facing, he would much prefer to have a good relationship with his son, so I’m sure he wants reconciliation.
“But he must bear in mind that he’s dealing with someone who could sabotage everything and embarrass him enormously.”
The King last saw his youngest son in February 2024, shortly after his cancer diagnosis. That encounter reportedly lasted barely half an hour, highlighting the strain in their relationship.
Since then, there has been no sign of the distance narrowing.
Royal experts suggest King Charles’ hesitation lies not just in old family wounds, but in the fear that Prince Harry may make their conversations public.
From the Sussexes’ explosive Oprah interview in 2021 to the Netflix series in 2022 and Prince Harry’s controversial memoir Spare in 2023, the airing of grievances is believed to have left the King deeply wary.
Katie Nicholl, a longtime royal commentator, said the risk looms over any father-son reunion.
“The reason his father is not speaking to him is because he fears that anything he might say will be made public in some shape or form,” Nicholl told OK! Magazine.
“Let’s not forget that details of private conversations between Harry, Charles, and William at an event as intimate as the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral were chronicled in Spare.
“So much has been aired publicly, which has been incredibly damaging for the monarchy, that the King is understandably wary of speaking to his son. Charles has had his fingers burned. And so the ball is in Harry’s court to prove that he can earn back his father’s and his family’s trust.”
Despite the caution surrounding him, Prince Harry is said to remain hopeful of restoring ties. One close friend of the Duke’s told The Times that he wants his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to grow up knowing their family in the UK.
“He’s not given up hope on bringing his family back to the UK,” they said.
“He wants to be able to show his children where he grew up. He wants them to know their family here. He really would like to come back to the UK much more.”
The coming days could prove a pivotal moment for the Royal Family. While many see this as a rare chance for father and son to reconcile, others fear another missed opportunity that may deepen the rift.
