A Buckingham Palace source has stated it will “not be possible” for the King to meet survivors of the late convicted sex offender, ahead of his state visit to the US on the invitation of Donald Trump. The Buckingham Palace source said: “There is no deviation from the guidance that we’ve previously issued, that it will not be possible during this State Visit for a meeting to take place of the kind that has been suggested.
“We fully understand and appreciate the survivors’ position, but can only reiterate that our position is clear that anything that could potentially impact on ongoing police inquiries and assessments and any potential legal action or criminal trial that could result from that would be to the detriment of the survivors themselves in their pursuit of justice.”
They added: “You’ll be aware of His Majesty’s clear constitutional position, not least with regards to the judicial process, and even though the risk may be small that a meeting or any public comments could impact on those inquiries, or the proper course of the law, that is a risk that we simply can’t take, for the best interest for the survivors themselves.
“That said, I would point you to the robust comments and indeed actions that The King and Queen have taken in relation to this issue previously, particularly Her Majesty’s long-term advocacy in support for the victims and survivors of all forms of domestic and sexual abuse.”
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who has faced his own calls to testify for a congressional inquiry, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
The four-day trip to meet President Trump is scheduled for April 27 to 30.
But the King and Queen could face some difficult questions over Andrew’s links to Epstein as they remain under pressure to deliver a public response to the paedophile’s victims during their trip.
A previous statement from Buckingham Palace had said the King and Queen’s “thoughts and sympathies have been, and remain with, the victims of any and all forms of abuse”.
Queen Camilla, over recent years, has been a longstanding campaigner against domestic abuse and violence against women and girls, including talking about her own experience of an assault.
