“Frankenstein” was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including best picture and supporting actor for Jacob Elordi, who plays the creature. Del Toro has labored for decades to bring his sumptuous reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic tale to the screen, mounting and then being forced to abandon the production at several points in his career. He finally gets his wish with a film that is visually bold, offering soaring sets and lush cinematography.
