Kylie Kelce‘s daughters are used to being told “no.”
Kelce — who shares daughters Wyatt, 6, Elliotte, 5, Bennett, 2, and Finnley, 13 months, with husband Jason Kelce — tells PEOPLE that she runs “a firm boundary household.”
“Our kids know the word no. They respect the word no most days,” the Not Gonna Lie podcast host says.
However, when it comes to things that may seem a bit difficult for her daughters, like potty training or trying new foods, she shares that there’s another word that’s popular in their house: try.

“I like the idea of, ‘let’s try this,’ ” Kylie says, noting that they “do it a lot at the dinner table.”
“‘I know you might not think you like that, but maybe just try it.’ We’re huge on that,” she continues. “My girls will say all the time, ‘You can try it. You have to try it. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to eat it.’ So we try at the dinner table.”
The encouragement has helped transform the girls’ mindset about things that seem a little daunting.
“Instead of ‘I can’t do that,’ it’s always a ‘Let’s try.’ Because if it goes well, great, and if it doesn’t, we can always try again later.”

While she also respects when her kids say no, she tells PEOPLE that “we’re big triers in our house, because much like in coaching, I don’t like the word ‘can’t.’ ”
“And they know that, so then we try,” Kylie shares. “It makes things feel a little more positive because it’s like, I’m gonna try. If I do it, great. If I don’t, I can always try again later.”

Kelce is partnering with Pull-Ups to introduce Pull-Ups Learning Layer, a blue layer that sits beneath the liner, designed to help kids learn the feeling of wet from dry, so that every accident becomes a motivational moment to make it to the potty next time.
Through the potty-training process, the podcast host says that “every single child reminds me that they are all extremely different.”
“It’s one of the most incredible things about learning your kids is learning that every single one is their own unique self,” she shares.
