Now, Odom is responding and said that he “never” said that
Lamar Odom is shutting down those controversial claims about his marriage to Khloé Kardashian.
In Netflix’s Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which premiered on March 31, the former NBA player, 46, made some comments that caused major upset for his ex-wife, Kardashian, 42, and his reasons for marrying her in 2009.
He said in the documentary that he was attracted to the Kardashian “lifestyle” and that played a role in his decision to marry Kardashian after just 30 days together. A close friend of his, Anthony “Pumpkin” Booker, who attended their wedding, also claimed that Odom told him on the day of the wedding that he was “doing it to try to better his future” as the Kardashian family had “mad connections.”
Kardashian, who participated in the documentary, called his comments “some f—ed up s—” on her podcast. “You’re sitting on camera saying you married me for fame? Like, what?” she said on the April 15 episode of Khloé in Wonder Land. “I feel so dumb. I spent hours doing this documentary as a favor. I’m not paid one penny. I’m pissed that I’m even involved.”

Odom cleared up his comments on the June 23 episode of Nothing’s Off the Table with Louis Ruggiero. “That never came out of my mouth,” he said when asked about the comments that he married his ex for “clout.”
“I think that was my kids or my children or whoever they were interviewing at the time, because, you know… I didn’t really need [her],” Odom said. His two adult children, Destiny and LJ, both appeared in the documentary.
“You loved her,” the host said, and Odom replied, “Yeah, I did. But I didn’t need more clout.”
He said that he wanted to “start the show” by clearing up those headlines. “I didn’t really need anybody, you know, at that time,” he continued. “Right before I was getting married, I was in a relationship with an with an A+ actress … When I met Khloé, so many things just fit naturally.”
Odom and Kardashian wed in 2009 and separated in 2013, but they didn’t officially divorce until 2016, after she helped him recover from his overdose.
On her podcast, the mother of two said she’s “never going to do another Lamar thing again” after how he spoke about her. “Everything’s a joke for you. You’re not accountable for anything,” she said of her ex, whose behavior she slammed as “gross.”
“I think what’s pissing me off is, we did this, all good. I was done with this,” she said. “But now Lamar is doing press [and saying he’s] annoyed with me. Claiming or insinuating that I’m a liar, all these things, discrediting me, saying that I wasn’t the one that helped him.”
