The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with larger-than-life characters, and one of the most iconic among them is Professor X, known for his powerful telepathic abilities that allow him to read minds. Over the years, actors such as Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy have portrayed the comic book character across several films. However, Marvel is now rebooting the entire franchise, and fans will inevitably see new faces in the upcoming slate of movies.
So, it doesn’t come as a shock that a lot of actors are expressing their interest in becoming a member of the beloved franchise. One such interest has come from none other than Laurence Fishburne, who expressed his desire to play a pivotal character in the X-Men film series. While attending the Matrix reunion panel at the New York Comic Con (via Entertainment Weekly), the 64-year-old actor opened up about the character he would want to play in the MCU.
During the conversation, Fishburne stated that he knows about Marvel working on a new X-Men project and then asked the fans present at the event if they would want to see him as Professor X. “I know that they’re talking about the X-Men now. So, at this point, I want one of two things. The first thing would be: what do you think about Laurence Fishburne as Professor X?” Fishburne said.
The addition of Fishburne in the franchise would be perfect and would bring a fresh gravitas to the role while bridging the gap between previous portrayals and the next chapter of the X-Men universe.
Fishburne is known for his performances in several high-end ventures, including The Matrix. The sci-fi film trilogy saw him playing the role of Morpheus, a human freed from the Matrix and the leader of the Nebuchadnezzar. His portrayal garnered him a lot of success and made him a force to be reckoned with in the world of cinema.
We hope Marvel is listening to his comments because he will undoubtedly be a worthy contender to play the telepathic leader.
