British guitarist and songwriter Laurence Jones has released his second single “One Life,” accompanied by a new music video. The track offers another preview of his forthcoming album On My Own, due January 23, 2026.
The upcoming record marks Jones’ first solo acoustic album and his most personal project to date. On My Own draws inspiration from Jones’ experience living with Crohn’s Disease. “This is a song I wrote in a time of need,” says Jones. “It almost came to me for healing. A lot of this album is about my battles and challenges living with this invisible and life-threatening disease.”
“One Life” explores themes of struggle and perseverance. “It’s about wanting to give up but having that fight inside you that says, ‘come on, you can do it,’” Jones explains. “The verse and chorus are like those two voices in your head, the one that says you can’t, and the one that pushes you forward.”
Musically, the track showcases a stripped-down, rootsy blues sound, influenced by Jones’ recent move to Nottingham and an encounter with blues legend Seasick Steve. “After seeing Steve at Rough Trade and getting to meet him, I went home inspired by that swampy groove he brings to his music,” Jones says. “I wanted that same swagger and feeling to come through.”
The video, directed by longtime collaborator Helen at Cuckoo Films, was filmed near Jones’ Nottingham home during a difficult period of illness. “I was battling a bad flare-up at the time,” he reveals. “We ended up filming in Nottingham just up the street where I live, around my neighbourhood. The graveyard in the video shoot is at the top of my estate and I walk down the road and pass these surroundings every day when I’m home.”
Jones says the video reflects both his personal experiences and fond memories of his grandfather. “My grandad would always ask me to take him to the grave to see my Gran when she passed,” he recalls. “He would dress up in his suit and tell us stories about their life together and my grandad was so grateful for the life they shared together. He would say ‘you’ve got to live your life to the full, you only get one,’ and it inspired this song.”
Jones describes the shoot as one of his most memorable. “Nothing was planned, it all came together naturally,” he says. “It’s one of the most memorable and enjoyable shoots I’ve ever done.”
“One Life” is the second single from On My Own, which will be released on Jones’ own label, RON RECORDS, in memory of his late grandfather. Jones will support the release with his Solo Tour 2026, beginning January 23 in London.
