Legendary 2000s Band Is ‘More Than Halfway’ Through Making Their Next Album

Evanescence is hard at work on their next chapter — and according to frontwoman Amy Lee, fans won’t have to wait too long.

During the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, the band’s frontwoman spoke with ALT 105.1 about where they stand creatively, including some insight on their new album.

“We’re in this kind of in-between phase right now because we were touring our last album, The Bitter Truth, for quite a while,” Lee explained, noting that their setlists are now shifting. With a handful of shows on the calendar, the group is mixing classics with a couple of new songs. “I’d say we’re more than halfway,” the 43-year-old revealed of the new record’s progress. “We’re really getting there. [I’m] really excited about it.”

While a final tracklist hasn’t been confirmed, Lee said, “I think we have all the songs that are gonna be on it at least started, so we’re in that moment of finessing and beautifying and writing lyrics and doing the hard stuff where I slam my head up against the wall.”

Later this fall, the band is heading to Australia and New Zealand, including select dates opening for Metallica, so it looks like they’ve got their hands full.

Earlier this year, Lee hinted at the momentum driving their creative process. In a chat with KROQ’s Kevin Ryder and Megan Holiday, she described how the group has been working at a feverish pace. “More of the goodness. We are just full speed ahead, making stuff, putting stuff out, doing stuff on the side,” she said, noting that the band isn’t tied down by strict deadlines. “I don’t have a date. I don’t like to set a date until it’s really done.” In 2003, Evanescence’s debut album Fallen changed the rock landscape. With hits like “My Immortal” and anthems like “Bring Me to Life,” the record went on to sell millions worldwide, earning multiple Grammy Awards and cementing the Arkansas-based band as one of the most influential acts of the 2000s.
