The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles recently rolled out the red carpet for the premiere of Paramount+’s Landman Season 2. The event drew A-list stars including Demi Moore, Ali Larter, and Billy Bob Thornton. However, the arrival of veteran actor Sam Elliott, at 81, immediately focused attention.
Elliott, instantly recognizable for his silver hair, trademark mustache, and deep voice, walked the red carpet with his own particular brand of effortless cool. At the screening, Elliott wore a relaxed ensemble: a hunter green pullover sweater, paired with black jeans, and black sneakers.

When discussing his famous voice with The Guardian in 2017, Elliott shared a moment of Hollywood humor: “I don’t think I’ve ever had problems with my voice in terms of what people have wanted out of me as an actor. But I did do a movie called Lifeguard back in 1976 with a director named Dan Petrie, who did a lot of incredible work. Every once in a while, he would tell me: ‘Let’s do it again, and this time, let’s be a little less south in the mouth.’ That’s always amused me.”
Elliott’s career features a range of film and television projects. For many fans, he is best remembered as the tough guy from the 1989 film Road House, where he starred opposite Patrick Swayze. Decades later, he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the 2018 film A Star Is Born.
Despite the critical acclaim, Elliott insists the work itself is the reward. What keeps him active in the industry? He explained, “I’ve done films over the years that basically no one saw. And I’m thankful that some of them haven’t been seen. But I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve been in a lot of films that a lot of people saw. It’s not about legacy for me. It’s about the people I’m working with at the time, and just going in and enjoying the process. It’s hard work, but it’s a creative, artistic process. And if you can’t enjoy that, then you’re going about it wrong.”
