Thommy Price, a veteran rock drummer who played with multiple iconic bands and performers, has died, according to reports.
He was 68.
Price’s wife, Stefunny Price, announced his death with a statement on social media on Friday.
“It’s with great sadness that we share the passing of beloved husband, friend and legendary musician Thommy Price,” it read.
“A devoted husband and proud father and powerhouse drummer and songwriter, Thommy’s extraordinary career spanned decades, performing and recording with some of rock’s most iconic artists,” that statement continued. “His energy, kindness, humor and unmatched rhythm left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him and every stage he graced.”
The statement added that Price will be “deeply missed” by his wife, daughter Brooklyn, “and a big beautiful Italian family, friends, and countless fans around the world.”
Price joined Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and is perhaps best known for his near three-decade run with the group.
“We lost a member of the Blackheart family — the one of a kind Thommy Price,” a statement to the band’s X account read. “Thommy was a legendary drummer who was a Blackheart for 4 decades. He was a drummer’s drummer and admired by so many. Our hearts are heavy. Sending love to his beautiful family. We love you Thommy.”
He also performed with Scandal and Billy Idol’s band. He also played with a list that included Roger Daltrey, The Psychedelic Furs, Blue Oyster Cult, Debbie Harry, Ronnie Spector, Mink DeVille, The Waterboys and Marshall Crenshaw.
Parade Magazine wrote that Price’s credentials cemented his place as one of rock’s most beloved drummers.
