Lightyear Entertainment March 11 announced the remastered 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc debut of 2007 crime comedy Randy & the Mob, plus the Oscar-winning short The Accountant, and bonus features.
Good ol’ boy Randy Pearson (Ray McKinnon (“Deadwood,” O Brother, Where Art Thou?) runs numerous businesses in a small Georgia town. The problem is that none of them are prosperous. This leads the aspiring entrepreneur to borrow cash from Franco (Paul Ben-Victor -“The Wire”), a loan shark connected to the mob.
Things get complicated when the IRS comes calling over his tax debt. Randy tries to hustle money from his wife (Lisa Blount – An Officer and a Gentleman) and begs for bucks from his estranged gay twin brother Cecil (also McKinnon) to no avail.
An impatient Franco sends Tino Armani (Walton Goggins (“The White Lotus”) to make things right with Randy and his floundering companies. Tino applies a mobster makeover to Randy’s business plan while pursuing his love of clog dancing.
This was an early leading role for Goggins, who won a producing Oscar for The Accountant). The film features appearances by Vic Polizos (Harlem Nights), Bill Nunn (Do The Right Thing) and Burt Reynolds (Smokey and The Bandit). McKinnon wrote and directed.
The Accountant, with McKinnon in the leading role, and co-starring Goggins and Blount, finds the O’Dell brothers (Goggins and Eddie King) calling an accountant (McKinnon) to help save their family farm. The accountant comes up with an unorthodox financial salvation. The title won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2001.
The special features include a making-of featurette, plus cast and crew interviews.
Randy & The Mob generated $45,000 in its original limited theatrical run.
