The Brooklyn Nets paid powerful homage to one of the borough’s most enduring cultural giants during the organization’s annual “Biggie Night,” an immersive celebration of the legacy of Brooklyn Hip-Hop icon The Notorious B.I.G.
Held inside the Barclays Center arena last Tuesday (Nov. 11), the evening transformed the arena into a vibrant tribute to both Biggie and the creative spirit of Brooklyn, coinciding with the season debut of the team’s special edition Brooklyn Camo jerseys.
“Biggie Night” featured a custom Biggie-themed court and an evening brought to life in collaboration with the Estate of The Notorious B.I.G. including a tribute to the late Voletta Wallace, special halftime performance by Lil’ Kim, themed performances by the Brooklynettes and Team Hype, Biggie bobblehead giveaway for the first 10,000 fans, themed fan photobooth activation and curated music playlist throughout the game.
The uniquely designed court and programming created an atmosphere that honored both the artist and the community that shaped him, reinforcing the Nets’ commitment to celebrating Brooklyn’s deep musical and cultural roots.
The event also marked the first time this season that the Nets took the court wearing the Brooklyn Camo jerseys. First introduced in 2018, the jerseys pay homage to the borough’s storied history and its global influence in music, art, and culture—an influence embodied by The Notorious B.I.G. himself.
Fans had already received a preview of the look during the team’s annual Practice in the Park, which brought thousands of supporters together for what became the most highly attended edition of the preseason fan fest and open practice in Nets history.
For CJ Wallace, son of The Notorious B.I.G., the night resonated on a deeply personal level. “Seeing the Nets and my family come together to honor my dad and grandmother in Brooklyn was really special. The night was filled with so much love, for them, for the city, and for the culture that continues to inspire us all. To celebrate their legacies together, in the place that shaped who we are, was truly a night to remember.”
Andrew Karson, Brooklyn Nets SVP of Marketing, reflected on the significance of the celebration. “From unveiling our Biggie inspired court to honoring the life of Voletta Wallace, a special halftime performance by Lil’ Kim, and seeing the players take the court in our City Edition uniforms for the first time this season, the Brooklyn Nets’ first Biggie Night was a vibrant celebration of Brooklyn’s culture and Biggie’s iconic legacy.
