Lilly Singh is set to be honored at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Canada gala and summit on May 28.
The Canadian actress and producer will receive the Equity in Entertainment Award at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Toronto. The tribute recognizes Canadians whose success opens the way for industry change and access for members of underrepresented communities.
Backed by her indie banner Unicorn Island Productions, Singh’s recent work includes the comedy film Doin’ It, which she co-wrote, produced and stars in. That follows the YouTube star becoming a late-night TV host with NBC’s A Little Late.
Singh also launched the south Asian creator network Hypen8 and hosts the CTV quiz show Battle of the Generations, where contestants from different generations compete in pop culture trivia. And she wrote the book How to be a Triangle and hosts the podcast Shameless with Lilly Singh.
“Lilly Singh represents the modern entertainment leader — multi-platform, entrepreneurial, socially engaged, and globally influential. Her impact across industries and communities makes her an exceptional recipient of this honor,” WIE Canada organizers said in a statement on Tuesday.
The upcoming third annual WIE Canada summit will again bring together the Canadian industry across TV, film and music to celebrate and recognize the achievements of women leading the industry forward. The all-day event is attended by top homegrown producers, actors, musicians and execs.
Singh joins earlier announced honorees Rachel Reid, Andrea Martin, Malin Akerman and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril and Stacey Aglok MacDonald. Additional honorees and speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
