Live music calendar: Sept. 5–14, 2025

Trio Bistro

3:30–5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8
1314 Harris Ave., FireHouse Arts and Events Center

Trio Bistro is a string trio using violin, viola and cello — but instead of playing the classical music you might expect from a group like that, they’ve developed a repertoire all their own: mostly jazz-inspired but with pop and fiddle tunes also in the mix. They’re doing an early show at the FireHouse Arts and Events Center on Monday, Sept. 8.

Catoberfest

Noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13
Beach Cat Brewing, 7876 Birch Bay Drive, Blaine

Saturday Birch Bay’s Beach Cat Brewing is hosting a big day of music, dubbed Catoberfest, at Blaine’s Marine Park on Saturday, Sept. 13. The family-friendly event features music from Paperheart, Glyf, Marla Hooch and Michael Dayvid, and benefits the Blaine Food Bank.

Washingtones Records Fest

10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13
Larrabee State Park, 245 Chuckanut Drive

Whenever I see the old bandstand at Larrabee State Park, I can’t help but think how cool it would be if there could be more live music there. The fine folks at Washingtones Records apparently agree. On Saturday, Sept. 13, they’re hosting their first-ever festival at that spot, featuring a wide array of mostly acoustic acts. Highlights from my point of view include De-Esser, Matney Cook, The Living Arrows and Girl Parallel, but the whole lineup is strong. They’re starting early, at 10 a.m., all the better to squeeze in more music. When the show wraps up at 8 p.m., there’s more downtown at the Blue Room.

Haunt, Saber

8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14
The Shakedown, 1212 N. State St.

Over the last few decades, metal music has split into a dizzying array of subgenres. So it was probably bound to happen that some bands would eventually start to refer to themselves as “traditional” metal.  Fresno’s Haunt and L.A.’s Saber, both performing at the Shakedown on Sunday, Sept. 14, throw it back to the old school without seeming self-consciously retro. If you’re still sad about Ozzy’s passing, this is probably the show for you.
