An appearance by livestreamer IShowSpeed aboard a tour van brought a crowd Tuesday to the heart of Hollywood.
IShowSpeed, whose real name Darren Watkins Jr., was streaming to his 44.6 million YouTube followers from the van as it traveled on Hollywood Boulevard and other streets. A crowd gathered around the van on Hollywood Boulevard near Highland Avenue to meet the 20-year-old content creator and snap photos.
The global internet personality later stopped at West Hollywood health a beauty shop FaceGym. Three black SUVs followed the van throughout the journey.
The appearance was part of his “Speed Does America” tour, a 35-day, 24/7 marathon livestream event.
“I’m learning more about LA, I’m learning more about the culture,” he told NBCLA during the tour. “Hollywood was my favorite part. LA’s top-10 for sure, but it’s not the end of the day, yet.”
Watkins rose to popularity in his late teens with streams featuring video games, his reactions to the games, challenges and IRL videos. What started as just a few viewers watching him play games like FIFA, NBA 2K, and Fortnite exploded into a global phenomenon.
