Lola Young Says She’s ‘Doing a Hell of a Lot Better’ Amid ‘Ongoing’ Recovery

Even while fresh off her first Grammy win, British pop singer Lola Young still has addiction recovery in her sight.

The 25-year-old spoke to The Times in a new cover story, less than a year after collapsing on stage during New York’s All Things Go festival. Shortly after, Young canceled her tour and told fans that she would be “going away for awhile.”

Young, who performed her hit song “Messy” at the 2026 Grammys first told The Times that she didn’t want to “say too much” in order to protect her “privacy.” She then revealed that she was in recovery for substance abuse.

“What I would say is that recovery is an ongoing process,” she told The Times. “I’m not the finished article, but I’m doing a hell of a lot better.”

In a Rolling Stone article published earlier this month, Young recounted that during her onstage collapse, she was on the verge of “self-sabotage” amid press runs, performances and while having schizoaffective disorder. The singer also suffered from cocaine dependency.

“You want to say yes to everything because everything’s on the table, but then you also have to balance that with your mental health, and I’ve been super open about my mental-health condition that I suffer from,” Young told the publication. “

When somebody is going through addiction, or struggling in any capacity, it’s hard to know how much a person can do,” she continued. “I chose to hurt myself and self-sabotage, and I also chose to get onstage and perform.”

Since this year’s Grammys, Young has returned to performing and will next tour the U.K. in June during a 6-date run.
