Udo Kier, a longtime actor who is known for appearing several popular cult films such as “Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein,” died Sunday morning at the age of 81.

Kier also appeared in several major films such as “Blade,” “My Own Private Idaho” and “Melancholia.” No cause of death has been reported.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Kier’s career covered more than six decades and included more than 200 roles in films and television. Variety reports that he worked with Warhol, Lars von Trier and even appeared in a music video with Madonna.

“I will miss you Udo Kier,” comedian and actor Dane Cook wrote on social media. “You had not only the coolest stories but you were a gracious host and I don’t believe people will believe me when I say you were one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. RIP – the highways shoot on our film ‘American Exit’ will forever be one of my favorite memories.”

According to Variety, his breakout roles were in “Flesh for Frankenstein” in 1973 and “Blood for Dracula” in 1974. Both were directed by Paul Morrissey and produced by Warhol.

Variety describes the films as “subversive, sultry reimaginings of the classic Hollywood monsters, with Kier bringing a haunting yet comically inept spin on the title characters.”

Kier was born in Cologne, Germany. He and his mother survived the bombing of the hospital in which he was born near the end of World War II, according to his IMDb.com biography.

He moved to London when he was 18 years old and he soon landed his first role as a gigolo in “Road To Saint Tropez.”

According to his biography, he is best known for his many collaborations with von Trier, including “Medea”, “Europa”, “Breaking The Waves”, “Dancer In The Dark”, “Dogville”, “Manderlay”, “Melancholia”, “Nymphomaniac (Vol. II)” and “The Kingdom.”

His roles in major films include “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” “Johnny Mnemonic,” “Barb Wire,” “Armageddon” and “End Of Days.”
