Hollywood legend June Lockhart has passed away at the age of 100, it has been confirmed.
The beloved actress, who became a household name through her iconic performances in Lassie, Lost in Space, and Petticoat Junction, died peacefully from natural causes at her Santa Monica, California residence on Thursday, October 23. Her daughter June Elizabeth released an emotional tribute, sharing: “Mommy always considered acting her craft, but her true passions were journalism, politics, science, and NASA.
“She cherished her role in ‘Lost in Space’ and was delighted to know she inspired many future astronauts.”
Boasting a remarkable career that stretched across nearly 90 years, Lockhart remained among the final surviving performers from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Speaking candidly about her memorable roles to Closer magazine in 2024, Lockhart revealed, “When I wasn’t shooting Lassie, I became the mistress of Scrabble with my hairdresser and the crew,” reports the Mirror US.
During the same interview, she confessed that ‘Lost in Space’ had been her most beloved project, explaining “it was so campy,” and adding, “and I truly enjoyed my relationship with my space family.”
Throughout her extraordinary eight-decade journey in entertainment, Lockhart graced countless prestigious television series and films, including General Hospital, Beverly Hills 90210, The Beverly Hillbillies, Happy Days, Full House, Roseanne, and Grey’s Anatomy. June inherited her theatrical talents, being born to accomplished performers Gene Lockhart and actress Kathleen Lockhart.
Born in 1925 in New York City, she made her big-screen debut at the tender age of 13. She shared the screen with both her parents in the 1939 classic A Christmas Carol, where she portrayed Belinda Cratchit.

Throughout her illustrious career, June received two Emmy nominations. One of these nods was for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Series for her stellar performance in Lassie.
Her extensive portfolio also earned her two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. One star honored her cinematic contributions, while the other recognized her television roles.
Not just confined to the screen, she also made waves in the theater world and bagged a Special Tony Award for Outstanding Performance by a Newcomer for her Broadway role in the 1948 production For Love or Money.
A private service is being arranged by her family in her honor. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that those wishing to pay tribute make donations to The Actors Fund, ProPublica, and International Hearing Dog, Inc.
