Celebrating 30 years of Louise’s 1996 debut album Naked, the shows promise to be much more than a nostalgia trip, allowing fans to see their more recent (and future 👀) faves live for the first time.

So, what can we expect from her imminent Hoopla slot and the tour? We got Lou on the blower to find out.

MORE: Where every Louise song and album has charted in the UK

Hi, Lou! You’re a Mighty Hoopla veteran now – you must be excited to get back on that stage?

It’s the best! What’s really nice for me this year is I’m back with a new album and [producer] Jon Shave, who did a lot of Confessions, has helped me pull the show together sonically. It’ll have all the new stuff, the old stuff and some surprises. It’s a whole new show done before, so there’s a lot to remember, but I’m really looking forward to it.

Your creative relationship with Jon just works, doesn’t it?

I’m very lucky, because he’s the superstar in all this, he’s created the whole feel and ‘newness’ of it. I mean, I don’t get many breaks, put it like that. It’s like an onslaught! The first section goes on for about eight or nine minutes without a stop. I want this to be high energy, high positivity, celebratory. I’m honoured to be back there.

What is about the Mighty Hoopla crowd that you love so much?

I always say, “never underestimate a Hoopla audience, because they know their stuff!” If you bring the goods, there’s nobody that’s got your back and more happy to have a good time with you than the Hoopla crowd. It’s the perfect audience for me, I’d never not bring my A-game.

Hoopla’s known to be such an inclusive, LGBTQIA+-friendly crowd, too…

They’ve been with me from day one. I don’t think I would’ve had a Top 10 album without them. I don’t think I’d still be going back into the studio today without them! I owe them a lot, and I’m super grateful. Mighty Hoopla feels like home to me.

That’s always reciprocated, too. They’re in it with you.

MORE: Everything you need to know about Mighty Hoopla

And did we hear you say you’re back in the studio?

I am! Last time I did Hoopla I did a news song, and this year, when I was in the studio with Jon, he was like, “Are we going to do a new song for Hoopla?” It’s a really good bop, everyone’s going to love it. Lyrically it’s very strong, I can’t wait. Me and Jon have such a great partnership, and Miranda Cooper wrote this new one. It’s very feel good, but also quite ballsy.

Can’t wait to hear it! And you’ll be celebrating over three decades as a solo artist with the Naked // Confessions Tour next year. How’s it been revisiting all your classics?

Again, like with the Hoopla set, Jon’s helped pull it all together. There’s definitely new life in the old songs because, as much as I want to bring the nostalgia and the, I want them to feel current and work well next to Confessions. Sonically it has to be a show that feels modern, and that’s always hard when you’ve got songs that are 30 years old!

It’s about reworking and restructuring, you don’t want to take away the fun and the memories, but at the same time you don’t want to feel dated. A lot goes into making that work.

We remember you saying that the brief with Confessions was ‘I’m not a heritage act’ – you’re up there with the big pop girls…

There’s a time and a place for the heritage part of my career to come in, but I’m just not there yet. I’ve got more to say now than I ever have, I’m keeping on going!

What is it you now feel ready to say as an artist?

I’ve got into a place of not being scared to show any vulnerability, that life isn’t always perfect. For a long time I was very nervous about that ever being seen. It’s having the ability to be vulnerable and honest, but from a positive. I think I definitely showed that on Confessions, and that’s just going to carry on coming through on the next album.

Ooh, a ‘next album’! When can we expect that? Next year?

I hope so. That’s my plan. I mean, I’ve been in the studio and we’ve done a few songs. I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m really enjoying songwriting and being on that creative level.
