Love Island USA star Huda Mustafa issued an apology to her Season 7 co-star Olandria Carthen after a racial slur was used during an Instagram Live stream with her boyfriend
Love Island USA star Huda Mustafa has issued an apology to Olandria Carthen after seemingly laughing at someone calling her Season 7 co-star the n-word during a live stream with her boyfriend Louis Russell.
The 25-year-old reality star posted a lengthy statement on her Instagram Stories to “more fully take accountability” after her initial response was deemed insincere.
Several Islanders made statements on the incident, including Chelley Bissainthe, Iris Kendall, and Hannah Fields. In addition to her apology, Huda also posted several charities and organizations, including the NAACP, which she intends to make a “personal donation” to after the racist incident was caught on camera.

On Tuesday, Huda went on Instagram Live with her boyfriend Louis, when the two answered a phone call from a fan and put it on speakerphone. The person then called Olandria the n-word. Huda and Louis burst out laughing before shutting the caller down.
“Turn that s–t off,” Huda said before turning to Louis and asking, “Yo, what the f–k, what did they say? They said a bad word.”
In her initial statement, Huda called the response to the incident “click bait,” and noted that she wanted to address the situation “before it blows out of proportion.”
Olandria responded with her own statement, in which she said she anticipated the incident would “result in a surface level apologies that fade in a few days,” and that she does not “condone racism of any kind.”
The 27-year-old wrote, “That kind of language is never acceptable. not in anger, not as a joke, not ever. Words like that carry generations of pain, and pretending otherwise only keeps the cycle going,” and called for “real accountability and awareness.”
Now, Huda has issued a second statement, addressing Olandria directly. She began by saying that she had taken the day to reflect and collect her thoughts to make sure she did not “come off as disingenuous.”
“Olandria – it is now clear that this comment was targeted at you, and I apologize for my immediate reaction,” Huda wrote.
“My reaction in that moment came from being caught off guard, not from finding the word or situation funny. It was a nervous, uncomfortable reaction that I recognize was inappropriate.”
“I want to be clear that I do not condone or tolerate anyone who uses such language, and I strongly encourage the individual responsible to reflect deeply on their words and the harm they’ve caused.” The statement concluded with her encouraging her followers to donate to one of the charities she listed, which included the NAACP.
Huda’s boyfriend, Louis, who starred in the Netflix reality dating show Perfect Match, also released a statement.
