Madlib and New York rapper Your Old Droog—who record together as Droogie Otis—have recruited Killer Mike for a new song. “The Edge” features one of the first beats Madlib sent out after his life was upended by the California wildfires, a press release notes. Watch the track’s animated video below.
“‘The Edge’ is one of those songs I dreamed of making,” Your Old Droog said in a statement. “It feels elevated. It feels like a suit-and-tie affair. It feels like an award show. It’s great to share that figurative stage with Killer Mike.” “The Edge” will appear alongside previous collaborations with Boldy James and Black Thought on a forthcoming Droogie Otis project, the press release adds.
Last year, Killer Mike shared the album Michael & the Mighty Midnight Revival, Songs for Sinners and Saints. He and Madlib are both in the midst of legal woes: Mike is currently suing the security company responsible for his arrest at the 2024 Grammy Awards, and Madlib is in the midst of a court battle with his former manager.
