MasterChef Australia judge Poh Ling Yeow came to the defense of Meghan Markle following the Duchess of Sussex’s unexpected appearance on the popular cooking competition.
The 44-year-old is scheduled to feature on the reality program, with production occurring on April 15, during the third day of her Australian visit last week. The TV chef provided a strong endorsement of Meghan‘s behavior during production, pushing back against the widespread rumors surrounding her visit. She remarked, “There’s so much public conjecture about this.
The royal’s participation had been kept under wraps until the teaser footage appeared on Channel Ten’s social media channels just hours after filming wrapped.
In the clip, Yeow can be heard introducing the guest, “We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before, but no one like this all the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.”
A source previously claimed that Meghan and her team were positioned just outside the studio entrance while the amateur chefs prepared their dishes, only learning about the flattering introduction when it aired. The source described them as “very frustrated” to news.com.au, having previously made clear that the word “royal” was not to be used in Meghan’s presence, given the backlash the Sussexes have faced over their royal ties during the tour, reports the Express.
Nevertheless, Yeow maintained that Meghan delivered a polished performance, attributing this to her entertainment background. The judge added to KIIS 106.5, “She’s an actor, right? So she just slid right into that judging role seamlessly.”
According to the culinary expert, Markle navigated her guest role with ease, drawing on her extensive experience in front of the cameras. The appearance is believed to be tied to Meghan’s lifestyle venture As Ever, which markets products including jams, honey, flower sprinkles, shortbread mixes, and wine.
It was previously reported that Australia could become the brand’s first international market. However, the Duchess of Sussex’s spokesman told GB News at the time, “This is speculation. No decisions have been made about when or where international expansion might take place.
“Entering new markets is a considered process, but it’s something the brand is excited to explore as it continues to grow in this next phase. Watch this space.”
