As per Page Six, the ‘Interstellar’ star went through a period of time where his bond with his mom got severely strained. The actor shared that he was in no contact with his mom for nearly a decade.

According to Page Six, The 55-year-old actor recently revealed that he broke all contact with his mom for 8 years. The distance arose because his mother shared details of his personal life, again and again. “We had about an 8-year period where I had to have short conversations with her on our Sunday phone calls, because she was sharing a lot of that information,” he remarked. He further added, “I’d tell her something on Sunday between son and mom, and Tuesday I’d read about it in the news or see it in the local paper. She couldn’t help herself”
Kay herself described that moment in their lives as, “We were on a hiatus.” However, despite the break, the two eventually became closer. “I got stable enough with my own position and fame that I was like, ‘You know what, my mom can say whatever the hell she wants,’” the star revealed.
The ‘How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days’ actor disclosed, “It’s much more fun now.” The mom-son duo is currently working on a series together. The project is called ‘The Lost Bus.’ Matthew’s teenage son, Levi, is also part of the project.
McConaughey’s relationship with his mother highlights the challenges that nearly all familial relationships go through; and it’s worse for those under the umbrella of fame. However, time, perspective and mutual understanding can heal long term issues and renew bonds to grow even stronger.
