MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — About two months after AMC closed its theater in Mattoon, officials announced that it’ll reopen — under new management.
On Monday, VIP Cinemas said it plans to reopen the 10-screen theater before the year is over. VIP said it’ll have a bigger menu, lower prices and increased hours of operation.

“Initially, we are focusing on making repairs, replacing projection and sound equipment for a high-quality viewing experience, and plan to make changes over the next year,” Josh Ward, Director of Operations for VIP Cinemas, said in a news release. “We’re excited to bring back life to a theater that is a huge part of the community. Everyone we’ve talked with in the area has been relieved to hear their favorite, local movie-going spot is reopening.”
“VIP Mattoon 10” will also have new seats and more movie offerings in the new year, VIP officials said.
The company’s theaters are largely concentrated in the Midwest. In Illinois, they operate theaters in Carbondale, Lincoln, Macomb, Mattoon, Moline, Morton, Ottawa, and Quincy.
Mattoon’s theater is located at 2509 Hurst Drive. It was built in 1995 by Kerasotes Theatres. Once the theater reopens, showtimes, pricing, and promotions can be found on VIP’s website.
