Family and friends, including French Montana, welcomed Max B with open arms after the Harlem rapper served 16 years behind bars. Footage showed the two rappers sharing a long hug
Rapper Max B has been released from prison after serving more than a decade behind bars.
Footage of his release was posted on Sunday, November 9, by the Harlem rapper‘s friend, French Montana. It also happened to be French Montana’s birthday. The clip showed New York native Max B, whose real name is Charley Wingate, greeting his family, friends, and, of course, the “Pop That” rapper. The two rappers shared a moment, embracing each other in a long hug and exchanging a few words. The two were all smiles.
He captioned the post, “CANT MAKE THIS UP ! MY BROTHER REALLY CAME HOME ON MY B DAY ! HAMDULILLAH [palms up together emoji] WALKED IT DOWN ! NO MORE FREE YOU [three wave emojis].”

Fans also celebrated the rapper’s release, commenting under French Montana’s post. One person wrote, “Been a long f—— time I wanna cry.” Another person wrote, “I know that feeling of picking your homie up from jail. It’s only up from here.”
A third person commented, “THE WAVY ONE IS BAAAACKKKKKK….WELCOME HOME MAX B….” A fourth commented, “Nah I’m really shedding tears welcome back [wave emoji].”
Max B had originally received a 75-year prison sentence in 2009 that was changed to 20 years after he pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter. The rapper served for his alleged role in a botched New Jersey robbery that turned into murder.
His release did not come as a surprise to some after the rapper announced his release on the Joe Budden podcast last December. Max B called in and emotionally told the host that he would be released on November 9.
He said, “I’m feeling righteous, man. I’m doing all right. This is almost over. … Wavy Baby coming home real soon.”
Max B also revealed that he was going to get back to the music game. He is set to start touring in 2026.
He said, “I’m working. I can’t wait to get re-acclimated. You already know I’m a musical genius myself, so n—-s gotta get re-acclimated with my shit. It’s a challenge. I love a good challenge. … I’m the trendsetter.”
The Harlem rapper made a name for himself in the industry in 2005-2006 after signing a recording deal with fellow Harlem-based rapper Jim Jones. He is best known for “Why You Do That” and “I Gotta Habit.”
