New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani says Taylor Swift “has already paid” the cost of the police presence at her wedding.
As many as 200 law enforcement officers guarded Madison Square Garden, costing between $120,000 and $160,000.
Mayor Mamdani notes Swift paid $160,000 for the permit she received to block off streets surrounding MSG.
Haters gonna hate, but they need to calm down: Taylor Swift paid for the extra police presence at her New York City wedding, according to Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Critics of the high-profile event pointed out that the estimated 150 to 200 law enforcement officers guarding Madison Square Garden for the two-day festivities could cost the city anywhere between $120,000 and $160,000.
By those calculations, she paid the check before it kissed the proverbial mahogany grain.
“Taylor Swift will be paying… has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event,” Mayor Mamdani stated in a press conference on Friday. “That was a permit that was finalized, I think, in just the days before the event itself.”
As Entertainment Weekly previously reported, the bride and her groom, NFL champion Travis Kelce, received a permit to shut down the streets surrounding MSG in Midtown Manhattan for three days from July 2 to July 4.
They also opened their wallets to express their gratitude to New Yorkers. The day before the couple said “I do,” it was announced that Swift and Kelce had donated $26 million to 20 charities in celebration of their wedding, including several based in the Big Apple, such as City Harvest, Food Bank NYC, and New York Cares.

Mayor Mamdani, a confirmed Swiftie, let it slip on June 15 that “big events” were set to coincide in Manhattan over the Fourth of July weekend, namely “Taylor Swift’s wedding.”
However, he was not one of the approximate 1,000 guests in attendance at MSG for the star-studded extravaganza.
Mayor Mamdani told a reporter he had not been invited, but “I wish them a lovely wedding. I’ll listen to ‘Only the Young’ at home on my own,” he added, referencing a deep cut from Swift’s catalog, a protest song inspired by the 2018 U.S. elections and accusations of vote-tampering.

When it was all said and done, the Swift-Kelce wedding reportedly cost the newlyweds between $20 million and $30+ million.
Esther Lee, the editorial director at The Knot Worldwide, broke down the possible cost for the two-day affair: $10 million to secure MSG, $5 million for decor and florals to transform the arena, $3 million for catering, and at least $2 million for the bride and groom’s Christian Dior Haute Couture wedding attire.
