Megan Markle stepped out at a “powerful women” conference in Washington, D.C hours after she was accused of making a “non-feminist move” on social media.
The Duchess of Sussex attended Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, where she spoke about her journey of becoming a founder of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which sells jams, wines, and other homemade produce.
Since the creation of As Ever, Meghan has gifted numerous celebrities with gifts from the brand, including Khloé Kardashian, who received a stunning basket filled with fresh vegetables, rosé wine, and a small-batch jam.

However, on October 14, Meghan took to the stage at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit to speak about setting up and running her brand, as well as her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.
Wearing a gorgeous Gabriela Hearst blouse and a Brochu Walker skirt, Meghan spoke about utilizing TikTok and Instagram to grow brands, but also noted the dangers of social media.
“I have had a very complicated relationship with social media, as you can probably imagine, and I also recognize the role that it plays in business,” she said. “Part of it is, you know, equally, the work that you were talking about earlier, my husband and I spend a lot of time working on online harms, specifically surrounding protecting our children, not ours personally, but all of our children, for what they’re susceptible to in the online space. So I’m sensitive to that.”
Continuing, she explained that it’s not all bad, adding, “I also recognize that if you can show up in these spaces and be on the side of good, there is tremendous value in that also. So we’re going to continue to expand the footprint in this social and digital space for the brand.”
Meghan also opened up about her first jobs, recalling working at a frozen yoghurt shop and doing calligraphy at events before her big break on Suits.

“When I used to do calligraphy, I used to do it for so many celebrity weddings and for hotels, and that was in between auditions, and I, at the time, I don’t know why I didn’t think to just buy a glove, but you don’t want the natural oils from your hands to get on the beautiful paper, so I would just put a white tube sock on my hands. All these very fancy cards for people,” she reminisced.
