Meghan Markle has said she and her husband, Prince Harry, feel “proud and privileged” to be supporting the new documentary they executive-produced, during a speech at the Sundance Film Festival. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a second premiere of Cookie Queens during the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, in Park City, Utah.
Cookie Queens is a documentary about four girls who “strive to be a top-selling ‘Cookie Queen,’ navigating an $800 million business in which childhood and ambition collide.” Harry and Meghan serve as executive producers through their media company, Archewell Productions.
During a speech at the early morning screening on Sunday, the Duchess praised the documentary as the “cutest film” at the festival.
Meghan said: “Thank you guys so much for being here bright and early. I know some of you probably had late nights last night, so extra thanks for the effort. Nothing that little cookies and coffee can’t help.
“Look, my husband and I and our Archewell Productions, we are so proud and privileged to be able to support and uplift Cookie Queens. This film, yes, is probably the cutest at the festival.
“But I’m also going to go out on the limb and say it is one of the most powerful and meaningful depictions of something that is an American tradition and rooted in nostalgia.
“But it’s now put through this lens from the incredible creative vision of Alyssa to show something modernised about the girlhood experience and all the layers of complexity that come with that.”
She added: “So, yes, it’s cute. And yes, these young ladies are fantastic and adorable, but they are also layered, beautiful girls who are about to become very strong leaders and young women.
“This film is such a labour of love. They have worked on for a couple years and with all of the hundreds of hours of trusted, fly-on-the-wall material that they were able to capture with these families that let them in and allowed them to show and share their lives and their loves.”
Meghan also made a statement about Princess Lilibet when speaking to the media on the red carpet.
A reporter from Deadline asked the Duchess whether Princess Lilibet, four, could ever be a Girl Scout in the future, with the Duchess giving a very vague answer.
She said: “It’s interesting, I think we’ll consider to explore, continue to explore whatever feels right.”
