Meghan Markle is back at it with yet another TV project – and no, she’s still not going back to Suits. Instead, the Duchess of Sussex has teamed up with her husband, Prince Harry, to make a movie for the Sundance Film Festival, with their media production company Archewell Productions teaming up with AJNA Films and Beautiful Stories.
What is the documentary about, you might wonder? The reality of leaving royal life behind? Meghan’s turbulent relationship with her family and estranged father? A behind-the-scenes special showing what it was really like playing Rachel Zane for seven years on the legal drama Suits?
Wrong on all counts. Instead, Meghan and Harry are making a documentary about… Girl Scout cookies.
Fine, Meghan used to be a Girl Scout. Her mother was actually her troop leader. I’m sure the Duchess managed to sell many a cookie in her day. But will this project really endear her to people any more than her sickly sweet Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, in which she re-bags pretzels and wraps wine bottles in paper bags?
Speaking about the new film, Meghan told Deadline: “I have a personal affinity for this film and am proud that all our conversations and collaboration have led to Archewell Productions partnering with this award-winning team to executive produce this incredibly captivating documentary.
“When we first viewed the early footage of this documentary, it was immediately something we wanted to be involved in.
“The creative point of view, the edgy yet humanising tone and tenor of the directing, and the glimpse behind-the-scenes into such a nostalgic and also modern tradition of Girl Scout cookie season are absolutely irresistible.”
Even her word choice here tells me I’m not going to enjoy the new Cookie Queen project. ‘Irresistible’ brings back to mind the exact saccharine treacle taste of the celebrities fawning over her in her faux TV kitchen. I don’t think I can stand any more family-friendly sweetness from the Duchess.
Seriously, Meghan, go back to Suits. Be a part of the reunion. You could serve the world of gritty legal dramas much better than you can the mommy vlogging sphere.
