Supporters of Meghan Markle have rallied to her defence following a prank by a business owner who labelled her “villain of the year”.
Devotees of the Duchess of Sussex have reportedly contacted Kitson department store to voice their anger after its proprietor, Fraser Ross, displayed her in a “holiday hypocrites” window exhibition in Los Angeles, California.
The image shows Meghan, 44, donning a Santa hat with “Montecito Diva” printed across it. The Duchess of Sussex appears alongside other “villains” including California governor Gavin Newsom, George Clooney and Katy Perry.
However, Meghan’s admirers are furious, with one individual ringing Kitson repeatedly in a single day this week attempting to speak with Mr Ross. The retailer stated: “One called the store 20 times to say we ‘weren’t nice’. She was deranged.”
Mr Ross, nevertheless, has stood firm on his choice to feature the Duchess of Sussex in the display. He stated: “Two months ago we asked our followers who should be on the windows and Meghan’s name [repeatedly] came up and they stated reasons.”
Meghan’s admirers rallied around the star this month after her father was taken to hospital requiring surgery. She ultimately contacted Thomas, the former TV lighting director, amidst mounting encouragement from her supporters.
Her fanbase has rallied behind Meghan during her recent difficulties, though Mr Ross maintains the gallery placement is warranted.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he stated: “We have been getting harassed by Meghan Markle fans. We told them we do this every year and she won one of the spots.
“Hopefully a retail store can knock some sense into Meghan because her “yes people” are making people dislike her more.”
The retailer explained that shoppers pointed to their disapproval of Meghan and Prince Harry‘s Royal Family commentary as justification for featuring her alongside other celebrities including George Clooney and Katy Perry.
Following the couple’s departure from Royal responsibilities in 2020 and their move across the Atlantic, the Robertson Boulevard store Kitson began stocking ‘Team Harry and Meghan’ and ‘Team William and Kate’ merchandise, allowing purchasers to demonstrate allegiance to their preferred Royal duo.
The boutique has once again targeted the Duchess with critical messaging displayed next to the former television star, attacking her choice to hold onto her aristocratic title.
Meanwhile, the cutting caption accompanying Katy Perry takes aim at her relationship with “the man who made a whole country hate him” – a reference to her new beau Justin Trudeau’s departure from leadership in Canada this year.
