Meghan Markle’s notable absence from the high-profile Met Gala didn’t shock US political commentator and royal analyst Hilary Fordwich, who suggested Hollywood insiders have been cautioned about the Duchess’s erratic conduct and informed that Meghan is “too risk to work with”.
During an appearance on TalkTV’s Mark Dolan show, Hilary revealed that Meghan, 44, failed to receive an invitation to the Met Gala due to having “alienated” Anna Wintour, who manages the annual charity fundraiser.
“But it’s not just Anna that she’s alienated. There are others,” Hilary said. “I know people who know people and they all say the same thing. You know something’s true when you hear, even if it’s second or third hand, ubiquitous feedback and it’s the same thing.”
Hilary stated: “She’s viewed as a landmine. Nobody knows when she’s going to go off if you bump into her. I heard words like, ‘It’s too high-risk.’ The word I heard the most was ‘risk’. It’s just too high-risk.
“People don’t know what she’s going to do or how she’s going to use them and then get dumped. People just find it high-risk. That’s the bottom line.”
Mark suggested that Meghan is perceived as detrimental in certain charitable circles, citing statements from Sentebale chair Dr Sophie Chandauka that fundraising efforts faced obstacles due to unfavorable views of the Sussexes’ reputation.
He stated: “Meghan even seems to be a liability in the charity sector. There was the row with Sentabale and Dr Sophie Chandauka, who has now gained control of that charity, said that they were struggling to raise donations because the Sussexes were such a toxic brand.
“There were some concerns that Invictus has become all about Harry and Meghan and the negative headlines.”
The presenter also highlighted allegations made by Tom Bower in his book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, claiming that Meghan used the word “I” 49 times during a 10-minute speech meant to emphasize charitable opportunities for young people after Megxit.
Hilary quickly concurred, comparing it to how political analysts track how frequently presidents reference key subjects in addresses to gauge their priorities.
“How many times you mention a word, it shows where your priorities are. It’s the same for everybody,” she said. “It’s been the same thing when she’s been on various podcasts and she’s supposed to be talking about a cause and she does talk about herself.”
Delivering a harsh critique of Meghan and how she has undermined her public standing, Hilary continued: “Ironically, she had a fabulous life. She’s a very intelligent woman. She’s slim, she’s attractive.
“She has everything going for her except for the fact that she’s so narcasistic and it’s a great pity because she, like Harry, has squandered all the popularity she did have at their wedding.”
