Meghan Markle has just released her latest As Ever products, but one PR expert believes she could face some issues.
The Duchess of Sussex announced her new holiday line on Instagram as she posted a video featuring all of her new products. The As Ever release includes items such as a $64 candle and $32 jar of jam.
Other products available include fruit spreads, wines and flower sprinkles. Meghan’s products have been slammed for being “wildly off the mark” and PR expert Ryan McCormick believes her pricing could cause confusion.
Speaking exclusively to The Express US, Ryan said, “I think Meghan is making a strategic mistake with both her products and pricing.”
He explained, “Are any of her offerings a necessity rather than a want? No. One example is that Markle is selling “Flower Sprinkles” for $15.
“The description doesn’t reveal what makes these sprinkles so unique or where they come from. Her Hibiscus and Peppermint Teas (selling for $14) suffer from the same fate.”
Ryan suggested Meghan’s As Ever products are “slightly out of range for most people but not priced high enough to be considered high-end luxury.”
One positive from the new collection, according to the expert, is Meghan’s Signature Candle No. 084. This item is on sale for $64 and Ryan described it as “a bright spot.”
He explained, “The description is immersive, making a person feel like they are owning a piece of royalty.”
Ryan concluded that As Ever “still has a branding crisis,” telling us, “It doesn’t know what it is or who its core audience is.”
The PR expert advised, “Meghan needs a grander vision that ties her products and multi-media ventures together.”
Meghan’s As Ever promo video featured the former actress using several of her new products to get ready for a seasonal gathering. In the clip, she was seen pouring jams into a dish and dripping honey on a dessert. Meghan also wrapped a bow around a candle.
While some fans rushed to purchase the new products when they went live, critics were quick to take aim at Meghan.
Taking to Reddit, one person wrote, “If there ever were a year when people are not going to feel like celebrating with ‘sparkling wine,’ this is it. Economic uncertainty, Amazon and federal workers laid off, natural disasters, etc., etc.”
They continued, “If there ever were a year when people are not going to want to shell out $89 plus shipping costs for ONE bottle of leftover white-labeled plonk from 2021 (which is so ordinary she recommends putting JAM in it), this is it. She can post ‘festive’ videos on Instagram all she wants. It’s the wrong time and the wrong product. What a stupid decision. As ever.”
