Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was gifted a pair of pearl and diamond drop earrings by the late Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift to mark her official welcome into the Royal Family – following a tradition also extended to other royal brides, including Catherine, now the Princess of Wales. The elegant earrings were first worn by Meghan shortly after her 2018 marriage to Prince Harry, and she went on to wear them at several official engagements during her early years as a working royal.
Before the pair embarked on an engagement to Cheshire in June 2018, the late Queen is said to have given her grandson’s new wife a pair of pearl drop earrings, which Meghan can be seen wearing in photos. The Monarch embarked on a similar engagement with the then Kate Middleton in Leicester in 2012. The earrings feature simple pearls hanging from a small diamond setting, similar to the late Queen’s own style.
Pearls are often worn by members of the Royal Family for formal occasions and important ceremonies.
After that engagement, Meghan wore the earrings on several occasions, including in Fiji in 2018 and at the WellChild Awards later that year.
Catherine’s engagement ring is a 12-carat oval Ceylon blue sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, set in 18-karat white gold. Formerly worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, this iconic Garrard piece was given to her by Prince William in 2010 and is valued at roughly £1million.
Meghan Markle‘s engagement ring, designed by Prince Harry in 2017, is a three-stone triology ring featuring a central cusion-cut diamond from Bostwana and two smaller side stones from Diana’s personal collection.
Originally on a yellow gold band, it was later updated to a delicate, micro-pavé diamond band. It is estimated to cost up to £300,000.
