Meghan Markle’s reported new plan with Prince Harry would have been a “nightmare” for Queen Elizabeth. The Duchess of Sussex visited Down Under with the Duke of Sussex last month for four days.
Among those engagements was Meghan’s feature on the YouTube programme Get Down With Sean and Marley. Best friends Sean and Marley gave Meghan some gifts during her appearance. Among them was a skimpy Speedo, with the phrase “Aussie Bum” on the back. Meghan remarked playfully, “That’s going to be for my husband. I just have a feeling. For the love of my life.” She continued, “We might renew our vows with him wearing these.” Sources claim Meghan is considering filming the vow renewal as part of a new reality-style TV show, for an intimate look at the Sussex family.
But an insider has said that the late Queen would hate the idea: “Elizabeth spent years truly regretting the decision to let cameras into royal life in the first place because she believed it blurred the line between monarchy and celebrity.”
The source told Radar Online: “The thought of Meghan turning her marriage into reality television would have had her cartwheeling in her tomb.”
This is in reference to the Royal Family BBC documentary, which first aired in 1969. It gave viewers an unprecedented look into palace life.
The documentary included footage of the Royal Family gathering for a barbecue, watching TV, and spending Christmas together at Sandringham.
Queen Elizabeth eventually banned the show from being broadcast again, finding it too revealing. It has not been seen on TV since. The source added: “The Queen came to believe the cameras changed everything.
“She felt the monarchy lost some of its mystique and became vulnerable to tabloid obsession and celebrity culture. Meghan’s reported plans represent exactly the kind of thing she feared royal life would eventually become.”
