Meghan Markle reportedly gave a straightforward three-word directive on how she should be addressed by an Invictus Games staff member.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex journeyed to Canada in February for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025. Scott Moore, the newly appointed CEO of the Invictus Games, was responsible for managing the organization’s first winter event.
As the annual Games approached, Mr. Moore recounted his encounter with the couple, who famously resigned from their Royal roles in 2020.
He disclosed that when he inquired about the correct way to address them, the Duchess simply responded, “Ma’am is fine”. Similarly, he was told that referring to the Duke of Sussex as “Sir” would be suitable.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said, “I did make sure to ask how I should be addressing them when they get here, and I was told the simple sir and ma’am is fine.”
Typically, male members of the Royal Family are initially greeted as “Your Royal Highness” followed by “Sir,” while female members are first addressed as “Your Royal Highness” and then “Ma’am,” according to the Express.
Harry and Meghan have stepped back from their roles as working members of the Royal Family. Nevertheless, they retain their complete Royal titles, including their HRH designations.
Yet, they have committed not to utilize these titles for business ventures after their exit, per arrangements established with the Royal Family.

This marks not the first occasion that stories have emerged about how Harry and Meghan wish to be addressed.
Merely a month before this year’s Invictus Games, Vanity Fair released a bombshell cover feature packed with numerous assertions about the Sussexes.
Within these accusations was the claim that certain former employees were required to address them as sir or madam, even though the pair are no longer active royals.
The account stated, “Some people familiar with the production of Archetypes and Harry’s book tour said they were instructed to address the couple as sir or ma’am, though the request was dropped in one instance after the person pushed back. (Other people say they were encouraged by Harry and Meghan to call them by their first names).”
