Meghan Markle faced criticism from a PR expert following her decision to return to acting by portraying herself.
The Duchess of Sussex made headlines on Wednesday evening, just hours before Prince William‘s major address at the Earthshot Prize Awards in Brazil, when news broke that she is making a comeback to acting after being photographed filming a new movie in Los Angeles.
Prince Harry‘s wife was photographed on set filming Close Personal Friends at Amazon MGM Studios in Pasadena, marking her first time back in front of the cameras after eight years.
The movie boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid – son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid – and British actor Henry Golding.
According to insiders, the Duchess will make only a brief cameo appearance in the movie, which follows two couples-one famous and one not-who cross paths in Santa Barbara and quickly form a close friendship.
Ms Smith added, “Strategically, it’s confusing too. She’s spent the past couple of years trying to reposition herself as a businesswoman and philanthropist, then as an influencer/lifestyle brand – but definitely not a performer.
“So this move muddies the narrative: is she building a brand, or chasing relevance? My guess is she’s going for ‘anything that will get attention’.”
Meghan’s newest Hollywood venture is being helmed by Jason Orley, who penned the screenplay alongside Isaac Aptaker.
The Duchess of Sussex has been contacted for comment.
