In December 2021, the South Florida hardcore band Method Of Doubt released their full-length debut Staring At Patterns, and I fucking loved it. In ways that reminded me of contemporaries like Mil-Spec, Method Of Doubt took the sincere, chest-pounding sound of classic melodic hardcore and made it sound new and immediate. At the last minute, that record elbowed its way into my list of the years’ best hardcore albums. Then, in classic hardcore fashion, Method Of Doubt broke up.
Method Of Doubt’s last show was only a few months after they released Staring At Patterns. But sometime recently, the band started playing live again. Now, they’re back with a new four song EP that’s coming out almost exactly four years after the album. With the new 7″ Total Soul Ignition, Method Of Doubt pick up exactly where they left off. They’ve made another record of furious, questioning mosh music that sounds as if it could’ve come out at any point in the past 40 years, in the good way. Listen below.
