MGK and Wiz Khalifa are bringing back early 2010s rap nostalgia with their new collaboration “Girl Next Door.”
The track arrived on Tuesday, accompanied by a comedic music video that leans heavily into the carefree, blog-era energy both artists helped define in the early stages of their careers. The dreamy, laid-back record also continues to build anticipation for the duo’s upcoming collaborative project.
In the visual, MGK and Wiz play roommates attempting to impress two women who have just moved in next door. The pair hilariously try everything from showing off workout routines to landscaping and setting up a small pool in hopes of catching their neighbors’ attention.
After finally building enough confidence to introduce themselves, the two discover the women are actually a couple, leading to a comedic realization from MGK after spotting a Subaru parked outside.
The video closes with a nosy neighbor watching the failed plan unfold through binoculars while joking about the situation from afar.
The release has sparked excitement among longtime fans who remember the pair’s previous collaborations during the peak of the blog-era mixtape movement in hip-hop, such as their 2014 release “Mind of a Stoner.” Their chemistry and carefree style helped make both artists staples of that generation’s internet rap wave. MGK and Wiz have also been teasing a full collaborative project, currently referred to by the initials “BEB.”
The single arrives as MGK prepares to kick off the second leg of his Lost Americana Tour, with Wiz Khalifa joining as a special guest throughout the run. The tour begins May 15 in California before making stops in cities including Dallas, Atlanta, Toronto, Vancouver, and St. Louis.
