CHAPEL HILL — Michael Jordan’s “Jumpman” logo is everywhere in Chapel Hill and beyond.
Jordan, the man himself, was back at North Carolina on Monday, Sept. 1, to attend UNC football’s season opener and Bill Belichick’s debut as head coach of the Tar Heels. No. 23 was among the celebrities roaming Kenan Stadium to kick off the 2025 season.
Lawrence Taylor, who played for UNC’s last ACC championship team in 1980 and won two Super Bowl titles alongside Belichick with the New York Giants, was also at Kenan Stadium and mingled with fans on Franklin Street prior to kickoff.
Country music artist Chase Rice played a pregame concert on stage at Polk Place, kicking off UNC’s “Chapel Thril Concert Series.” Rice played for the Tar Heels from 2005-08. Soccer legend Mia Hamm and country music star Eric Church, former NFL wide receiver Randy Moss and former UNC basketball coach Roy Williams were among the other celebrities on site.
UNC and TCU kickoff at primetime at 8 p.m in a game that will be televised on ESPN.
