Militarie Gun have announced their new album ‘God Save the Gun’, and shared a new music video for lead single ‘B A D I D E A’.

The follow-up to their 2023 debut ‘Life Under The Gun‘ is set for release on October 17 via Loma Vista, and you can pre-order/pre-save it here. Leading the 14-track record is ‘B A D I D E A’, which comes accompanied by new visuals directed by vocalist and primary songwriter Ian Shelton.

Speaking about the new video, Shelton said he wanted to make something that felt like “a celebration of vices” and “a new iteration of yourself looking back at a moment you made a mistake while never truly reflecting”.

“This was the most technically challenging video we’ve ever done,” he said, “and it only fits a song spelling out the words ‘bad idea.’”

‘Life Under The Gun’ was a deeply personal exploration of the cyclical nature of trauma and addiction within families, with NME calling it a “powerful, memorable collection” in a four-star-review, and while the new LP is still connected to that intense history, the perspective has shifted.

“I’m well aware that being this vulnerable turns my personal trauma into a marketing hook for this album,” Shelton said of it’s subject matter, which charts self-destructions and it’s uneasy intersection with self belief.

“But I’m fine with it, if not provoking it. Over the past couple years, as I spoke about addiction from the perspective of someone affected by it, I became the one struggling with it. There’s a farcical logic to entering a situation, fully knowing the consequences, and doing it anyway – but that’s where my head was when I started leaning on drinking.”

The tracklist for ‘God Save the Gun’ is:

‘Pt II’
‘B A D I D E A’
‘Fill Me With Paint’
‘Throw Me Away’
‘God Owes Me Money’
‘Daydream’
‘Maybe I’ll Burn My Life Down’
‘Kick’
‘Laugh at Me’
‘Wake Up and Smile’
‘I Won’t Murder Your Friend’
‘Isaac’s Song’
‘Thought You Were Waving’
‘God Save the Gun’

‘God Save The Gun’ see’s Shelton continued his creative relationship with Phillip Odom, as well as co-wrote alongside James Goodson of Dazy – who the band recently teamed up with on new single ‘Tall People Don’t Live Long’.

Back in 2023, the band spoke to NME as part of their feature on The Cover, with members exploring how their sound has evolved since their formation, and how they hope their live performances will continue to resonate with fans.

“Hardcore is very youth-centric and it’s cathartic in a way everybody can relate to, because it’s less about an aesthetic and more about the energy,” drummer Vince Nguyen said.

“Whether someone is actively a part of it or just watching, they can feel involved and feel like they’re a part of something that is bigger than them.”
